"We are an Orcas Island flock of Free-Rangers descended from a long line of Rhode Island Reds and Plymouth Rocks. Our family has always laid brown eggs. "As Free Chickens we are especially proud of the alternative concepts for local economic development that we work daily to implement.. "When you support Happy Chickens you are working for the kind of changes we all benefit from. Thanks for your support." Chickens come first at Happy Chicken, because we think that little backyard velocitoraptors are oddly loveable. But also, when the chickens are happy and living well they lay the best possible eggs and they lay lots of 'em. And because of their varied free-range diet, their eggs are full of life and energy. Out of respect for their feelings, we try never to collect eggs while our hens are on their nests. Some of them get quite upset so we've learned to be sneaky. Each of their nests also contains a permanent clutch of life-sized glass eggs. This way, the nests never appear empty. We think chickens are worthy of respect and attention. They are awfully good at what they do; with just a little help from you they will do the rest, and turn you into a food producer as well as a consumer.(Incidently, we don't eat our chickens -friends don't eat friends.) But just as important, their antics are always entertaining. Our chickens make us laugh, they're always worth a smile, and that's about all you can ask of anyone or anything. |
